Fall Favorites at Tricky Fish Richardson

Who’s hungry? Tricky Fish is bringing you the fall dishes you are craving! You’re talking and we’re listening: We love bringing you the simple-yet-delicious flavors that are quintessentially southern. It’s comfort food reimagined with fresh ingredients and a farm-to-table atmosphere that can’t be beat. Here are a few of our top menu picks for Fall:

Shrimp Linguine

Tricky Fish does seafood right, and the shrimp linguine is no exception. We start with a bed of al dente linguini, then drench it in a bourbon sherry cream sauce with roasted tomatoes and scallions. Add the shrimp, and it’s the cherry on top. You’ll be hard pressed to find a better shrimp pasta around!

Fried Shrimp & Oyster Grits

Joining us for brunch? Then you’ll love the Fried Shrimp & Oyster Grits! It’s exactly what it sounds like: country fried oyster and shrimp sit atop a bed of cheesy grits loaded with bacon and corn – and we’ll even add a fried egg and Shiner Bock BBQ sauce to boot.

Shrimp Salad Farmhouse Burger

Yes – it’s new to our menu this fall, and already getting rave reviews! What’s on a shrimp salad farmhouse burger? You get the all-natural beef patty, lettuce, tomato, crispy fried onion straws, fried shrimp, cheddar cheese, and a fried egg. Yall – everything is bigger in Texas and this thing is huge!

Kitchen Sink Gumbo

As the saying goes…everything is in this gumbo BUT the kitchen sink! Chow down on shrimp, fish, chicken, and Andouille sausage gumbo over delicious white rice. It’s a Cajun favorite we just can’t live without this Fall!

If you’re looking for the best Richardson restaurant to enjoy a casual – yet gourmet – meal, come by Tricky Fish this week. You’ll love the vibe and all of our Fall dishes! Don’t forget to order a handcrafted cocktail to go with your meal!

At Tricky Fish, we are excited to share with you a great opportunity to support children’s cancer research, treatment for childhood diseases, and so much more.

For the entire month of October, come dine at your favorite Richardson restaurant – Tricky Fish - and support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. As our COO Garret Brooks explains, “We hope to make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and their families,” and YOU can be a big part of that.

Curious about what your money will go to support? Let us tell you a little bit about what St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital does:

Hospital Treatment at NO Cost

One of the most wonderful things about St. Jude is that they are a no-cost facility, giving families the opportunity to focus on the needs of their child and getting him or her healthy, all without worrying about what it’s going to cost. 70% of the funding for St. Jude comes from everyday, individual donations, such as the funds we are raising this month at Tricky Fish.

Childhood Cancer & Disease Research

St. Jude is a renowned research hospital, researching cures and treatments for childhood disease and cancers for over 50 years. St. Jude is committed to finding a cure for cancer, and the work they are doing now is making a difference! Since they began researching a cure for cancer, the survival rate has risen to 80%! And the research doesn’t stay in-house. When discoveries are made, they are shared worldwide, which means donating to St. Jude leaves ripples that can be felt around the world.

Join us at Tricky Fish in Richardson, Texas from October 1 – 31, and we will be taking donations for St. Jude. Thank you in advance for helping us support this wonderful cause! We cannot do this without you!

Tillamook Macaroni & Cheese

Tillamook cheddar is the secret ingredient to this creamy, velvety smooth mac and cheese. Tricky Fish starts with al dente Cavatappi noodles (aka corkscrews) and then folds in the Tillamook cream sauce. Oh so good. Want to pump it up a notch? Top with grilled chicken or shrimp.

Crawfish Etouffee

Nothing quite warms the soul like a big bowl of crawfish etouffee. Ours is a true Cajun classic, with shrimp, dirty rice, and crusty French bread included.

Kitchen Sink Gumbo

Our Kitchen Sink Gumbo is meant as a starter, but many order it as an entrée because it’s plenty big enough for a meal! Think chicken, Andouille sausage, shrimp, and fish all swimming in a Cajun gravy and served with white rice and crackers.

The next time you get the rainy day blues remember to come by Tricky Fish in Richardson, Texas! Eat in or order Richardson takeout, either way it’s sure to be the southern comfort food you’re looking for.

Have you Tried the New Menu Items at Tricky Fish Richardson?

That’s right: at Tricky Fish, we are keeping our menu fresh! We’re constantly changing it up - adding new recipes, offering unique chef specials, and concocting new handcrafted cocktails – just to keep things interesting. We never want you to feel like our menu is stale. It’s just one of the ways we strive to be the best new restaurant in Richardson.

So with that said, we’ve already added a few new menu items that we hope you enjoy!

Tricky Fish

While this menu item may not be new, we can now offer a new twist on the customer favorite! The traditional Tricky Fish comes with blackened tilapia, served with crawfish etouffee and Cajun dirty rice on the side. Now, in addition to the tilapia option, we are pleased to offer blackened salmon or redfish instead if you so desire. Hum…decisions…decisions….

Blackened Salmon

In addition to the Tricky Fish, you can get that same delicious blackened salmon flavor but with a totally different vibe. Our Blackened Salmon entrée substitutes the traditional Cajun sides for mango relish, dirty rice, and shishito peppers.

Grilled Salmon

You asked and we answered. Salmon has amazing health benefits – high in Omega-3s and can actually reverse high cholesterol numbers – so we’re excited to offer this lighter option on the menu. The grilled salmon comes with potato hash and shishito peppers.

Grilled Redfish

Another great grilled option on our new menu, the grilled redfish is served with a wilted spinach salad and fried onions.

Don’t forget to grab an ice old craft beer, glass of wine, or a handcrafted signature cocktail to accompany your meal!

Visit us at Tricky Fish in Richardson, Texas today and tell us what you think of our new menu items! Are you loyal to one of our menu mainstays or have you found a new favorite with the new menu items?

Accidental Success: The Rise of the Moscow Mule

Wouldn’t it be great if we could just stumble across a cocktail – coin a name for it – and then it catch on like wildfire?

So many of the popular cocktails we enjoy today started this way – including the Moscow Mule.

Let’s just say the Moscow Mule started as a cross between good ole fashioned American ingenuity and a complete accident.

In the late 1930s, a company called Heublein bought the rights to Smirnoff vodka, the delicious, smooth vodka we love today. But back in the 1930s, no one was drinking vodka and Americans snubbed it. Here’s where the facts get fuzzy. One story is that Heublein executive John Martin paired up with his buddy Jack Morgan – owner of the Cock n Bull bar in LA – and created the drink to clear an abundance of ginger beer inventory and spark interest in the newly acquired Smirnoff vodka. However, Wes Price, the head bartender at Cock n Bull at the time, also claims that he invented the drink. So who knows?! All we know is that we’re glad someone came up with it!

And as for the copper mugs? Well, it seems they might have come on the scene because Morgan was dating a woman who owned a copper company – seriously. But at the end of the day, it was actually Martin who popularized the Moscow Mule in the copper mug, taking polaroids of bartenders holding the copper-clad drinks in hand and then showing them to the next bar he was trying to persuade to buy Smirnoff vodka/ginger beer. Apparently, it worked.

Cheers to you, John Martin, for bringing us such a tasty cocktail! Ready to take on the best Moscow Mule in Richardson? Visit Tricky Fish today to get one of our delicious mules, an Old Fashioned, or any of our other handcrafted cocktails.

Tasty New Orleans Po’Boys – in Richardson!

Do you ever get a craving for the delicious tastes of New Orleans?

While we know it’s not quite the same, Tricky Fish is proud to bring the tastes of New Orleans to you in Richardson, Texas! Crawfish etouffee, oysters on the half shell, muffalettas, and of course- the po’boy!

New Orleans Po’Boys in Richardson, Texas

New Orleans Po’Boys are a sandwich that can be enjoyed by anyone – anywhere, anytime. What originated as a simple way to feed the “poor boys” of New Orleans, is now one of the most beloved items on our menu at Tricky Fish. In fact, we’ve got a whole menu of delicious, authentic po’boys for you to choose from:

·     Fried Shrimp or Fried Catfish: one of the most classic ways to enjoy a po’boy, ours can be ordered with flaky fried catfish or fried Gulf shrimp, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and tartar sauce.

·     Roast Beef: Not really into seafood? Order our traditional roast beef po’boy, served with thin slices of roast beef, provolone, and our horseradish sauce.

·     Fried Oyster BLT: If you’re looking for something a little different, be sure to grab the Fried Oyster BLT! Tricky Fish tops it with bacon jam (what dish isn’t good with bacon jam?!), fried oysters, and tartar sauce.

·     Blackened Chicken or Catfish: Simple, satisfying, and a little lighter than its fried counterpart. Order the blackened chicken or catfish with horseradish cream sauce, lettuce, tomato, and pickles.

We also realize that the real star of a po’boy is the bread, so you’ll find our French bread to be nice and crusty on the outside with loads of softness inside.

Ready to grab a New Orleans po’boy in Richardson, Texas? Head over to Tricky Fish in CityLine DFW today for lunch, dinner, or happy hour. And don’t forget that you can call ahead and order it to-go, making your post-commute dinner plans even better. Just grab Tricky Fish on your way home and dinner is done!
